As the graphic designer for LACCD, I work very closely with the Director of Communications. We are the two-person team that handles most of the design, marketing, PR, and communication needs for the District. Since we're such a small team in such a HUGE District, I often have to wear a lot of hats: project manager, art director, production artist, web designer, UI designer, photographer, and more.
Some selected projects from my time at LACCD below.

The LACCD logo has been around for a long time. There aren't many records showing who created it or how long ago it was actually designed. However, the current iteration of the logo had been digitized in a way that made the letters aliased and jagged. The rounded container of the logo was asymmetrical but didn't really have a reason to be. Additionally, in the wide version of the logo, the letters were condensed into artificial small-caps typography.
Before making the stationery system, I refreshed the logos, giving them symmetry, smooth vector shapes, and resetting the typography to be more balanced and legible.
Business system and logo refresh
The Director of Communications and I were able to publish an annual report. No person or team had been able to assemble an annual report for the District in the last ~10 years.
We gathered information from a variety of sources; nine college PIOs, the Office of Educational Programs and Institutional Effectiveness, the Foundation for L.A. Colleges, BuildLACCD (the voter bond building program), and the Chancellor's Office. We synthesized all this information into a 28-page book.
Initially the book was planned to be a digital publication only ↝. The administration liked it so much that we had two print runs totaling ~1,200 books. Next year we expect to print more.

In my time at the LACCD, there have been two (TWO!) separate occasions where cars plowed into the facade of the building. (Luckily everyone is OK.)
Insurance wouldn't allow us the funding to install more robust building signage; we kinda just had to replace what was already there. I updated the logos and typography, approved the color of glass used, and chose signage materials that better-suited the face of our Downtown L.A. building.

Working with a Research Analyst in the Office of Educational Programs and Institutional Effectiveness, we were able to create this beautiful little blue book, which outlines the LACCD's strategic planning through 2023.
The District was without a graphic designer for a long time. Without a designer in office, people started to lose a sense of what the LACCD brand looked like. One of my goals for this book was to create something heavily-branded, as this would mostly be shared internally and among the colleges (hence, the heavy use of blue throughout).

Sometimes, I had to roll up my sleeves and do some HTML and CSS. The first image is a landing page for student class registration. We were updating our back-end student registration system and needed a simple page to redirect students.
The second image shows our job application board. I had to adjust the visual UI of a preexisting template to add LACCD's branding. No code for this one; I instead supplied super detailed color, typography, and spacing specifications to the engineers working on the site.

One of the simplest projects happens to be one of my favorites. For a 2019 graduation event, I was able to design a gobo ↝ to project the LACCD logo onstage.
